This
was Tony Vale's project to give first time playwrights an opportunity
to have their work performed. Having assembled 14 scripts for
short, one act plays and sketches, it was then just a simple task
to find directors and casts for them all!
Congratulations
and yet another Gold Medal in lunacy to Tabi for co-ordinating
the event, which was a 'first' for us in many respects.
The
cafe-style evening was an enormous success in spite of having
to accommodate 140 paying customers. The ploughman's supper, particularly
the lettuce, was, as Norman would have said was 'A Triumph' and
many thanks to Carole Wilson and all the willing helpers who put
it all together.
Almost
80% of the audience filled in the rating sheet and the results
were: 'Very enjoyable' 27%, 'Enjoyable' 34.3%, 'Not bad' 26.5%
and 'Not for me' 12.2%. A number of people commented on the forms:
"Thankyou for a wonderful evening", "Excellent
acting, good story lines", "Thankyou, a great night
of entertainment", "Excellent evening", "Should
be an annual event", "Little more pace, less lengthy,
crisper".
All
concerned with the project can feel justly proud of a very professional
and hugely rewarding experience. With eight of the Directors new
to Wymondham Players, no less than 13 new actors, a new Assistant
Stage Manager (Jimpy Casson), a new Sound/Lighting Assistant (Sam
Burton), it was certainly a showcase for new talent.
We
are looking at the possibility of doing a similar event with some
longer one act plays (about 20-30 minutes) over two nights next
May.
